About the job

The environmental, health and safety leader is responsible for protecting employees from hazardous workplace conditions. Conducts regular inspections and audits to identify hazardous conditions and implements processes and policies to ensure worker health and safety. Evaluates projects to identify potential risks or hazards and recommends protective actions, equipment, or controls. Takes samples and measurements to evaluate conditions and coordinates the removal of hazardous materials, equipment, or conditions. Trains and educates employees about safety policies, programs, and regulatory requirements to ensure awareness of environmental hazards and workplace safety. Investigates accidents and worker concerns to identify root causes and recommend processes and controls to correct issues and prevent recurrence. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the site’s EHS strategy, aligning with corporate policies and regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.).
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks through audits, assessments, and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver training programs to ensure understanding of EHS practices at all levels.
  • Monitor, track, and report on safety incidents, near misses, and environmental metrics. Drive corrective and preventative actions.
  • Maintain and update safety data sheets (SDS), chemical inventories, and hazardous waste management processes.
  • Manage incident response, workers’ compensation claims, and return-to-work programs in coordination with HR.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all regulatory inspections and audits. Prepare and submit required permits and reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS into daily operations and projects.
  • Lead emergency preparedness planning, including drills, communication plans, and first-responder coordination.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable state/local regulations.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing safety and environmental programs.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in EHS software systems, MS Office Suite.
  • General awareness knowledge of the ISO9001 Quality Management System requirements, company Quality Policy and your contributions to the effectiveness of the QMS.
  • Responsible for being knowledgeable of and acting in strict accordance with the requirements of all relevant laws, regulations, and Company policies, including, among other areas, Food and Drug Administration regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist).
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
