Brand Marketing Director, Zig-Zag

About the job

Turning Point Brands (TPB) is seeking a Brand Director for the Zig-Zag segment, inclusive of Zig-Zag and our lighter business. This role is part of the Revenue organization, reporting directly to the Head of Marketing, but will work closely with numerous cross-functional partners. The overall responsibility of this individual is to meet and exceed revenue targets for the Zig-Zag segment by setting and leading brand strategy and execution.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the development and execution of the annual marketing plan across the Zig-Zag segment to ensure growth targets (share, volume, financial performance) are achieved, while maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Builds plans that are consumer-first with an understanding of the full picture of brand building (the Ps)
  • Build an integrated marketing communication plan and overall brand strategy with key internal stakeholders; prioritizing the rapid increase of brand awareness, trial, and repeat
  • Strong P&L influence inclusive of sales forecasts/projections, COGS optimization, and resource allocation
  • Guide the creative executions that build brand equity based on brand positioning, campaigns, vision statement, and core strategies
  • Leverage category trends and consumer insights to build brand plans that continue to grow this iconic brand
  • Evaluate the competitive landscape and ensure the brand is effectively competing
  • Oversee the in-market product offerings and determine portfolio optimization to ensure we are maximizing top and bottom-line growth while minimizing cannibalization
  • Oversee and lead Product Development to align on commercialization and go-to-market plans of incremental line extensions and/or new products
  • Partner with Sales on sharing brand initiatives and priorities, in-store programming, customer sell-in presentations, and education materials
  • Partner with Creative Director and oversee Graphic Designer to drive break-through creative work with a concentration on building brand awareness, equity, and establishing key points of differentiation
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure strong business plans and execution
  • Provide regular updates on assigned brand(s) to senior management
  • Manage staff of 5-10 including recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, supporting, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Marketing or related subject
  • 8 to 10 years Brand Management experience, ideally in a CPG company
  • People management experience at multiple levels (i.e. employees with direct reports)
  • Responsible for being knowledgeable of and acting in strict accordance with the requirements of all relevant laws, regulations, and Company policies, including, among other areas, Food and Drug Administration regulations, which the company will assist in and coordinate training
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nielsen/IRI experience
  • Ability to travel 15% of the time

  • Team oriented with a successful track record of collaboratively executing cross-functional projects
  • Experience with digital marketing tools and techniques
  • Familiarity with fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) distribution channels and managing media campaigns

The pay range for this role is between $140,000 to $165,000 a year.
